A Retro Perspective

August 18, 2011

Last weekend, a friend invited my boyfriend and me to her family’s cabin in the North Georgia mountains. We had a wonderful time, and it was even more fantastic to be off the grid for 24 hours: no TV, no Internet, no cell phone service.

Instead we spent our time lounging around, reading, hiking, wading in the creek and more relaxing.

While my friend’s husband was working to get the campfire going, we came across a Chattanooga newspaper from 1970. No special events seemed to take place on that day; instead there were pressed ferns inside.

I did find some fascinating ads though…

I was mesmerized by these ads. In case you can’t see it, the top ad says, “Perky-Plaid Mixers.” And how great are those nightgowns?

This was quite the treasure to come across. I love how these aren’t actual photos, but illustrations.
